YOSA thwart Canon’s Ambitions

Yong  Sport  Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda  this afternoon imposed a 2:1 victory over the mythic Canon sportive of Yaoundé  at the Bamenda Municipal stadium to climb up to the 5th position  on the unofficial classification  on 16 points. This was infront of over 8000 fans.

The match was tensely contested with YOSA enjoying most of the possession in the first half but failed to make gains out of it. Goal scoring opportunities were far between. When it came, it was the home side that created one but was very poor in their finishing. Kongnyuy Jude was particularly guilty as he wasted a close range effort with the empty goal at his mercy. His header just 2 metres out went begging at the side net from a beautiful cross from the left flank.

This was not to be so after the recess, it took only 52 seconds for YOSA to open the scoring from a sole effort by the left back Siyen Lawrence. He carefully flat footed his marker with a beautiful inside turn to hit the ball with his weaker right leg but fortunately for him and the home side, the ball took a wicked deflection from a small stone on the sandy pitch to beat keeper Njocky of Canon that had gone on his knew in anticipation of the ball which went over his head.

The goal seemed to had galvanized the “Ndamba Boys” and their supporters who continued to beat their drums to a deafening level. The second goal came  at the 64th minute with the run of play and carried the marks of a quality team work.  Tagne Fotso was well served by Kongnyuy Jude just at the edge of the vital zone and his well timed run and kick showed a class of mastery as he intelligently beat Njocky for goal number 2.

If the first goal helped bring the second, the second instead  produce an opposite effect as Canon seized total control of the game putting all the fans and players on the edge. This bore fruits at the  83rd minute of the game when Canon pull back one goal following a defense mix up.

The remaining 7 plus 5 added minutes were not one to behold for supporters of YOSA as Canon continued to mount pressure with the hope of harvesting a point from the game. When the final whistle came it sparked off wild scenes of jubilation around the stadium.

The result now means YOSA moves from 9th to 5th position and closer to their season goal of a place on the podium while canon that recently recorded a series of victories after a poor start to the season drops to 8th position from the 7th .
