Yosa Down New Stars To extend Unbeaten Run

Yong Sport Academy has extended to three matches, the number of games unbeaten in the MTN Elite One Championship, a run that extends to the start of the second phase of the championship. A solitary goal from Awono Junior in the 78 minute of play following a goal mouth tussle was all it took to separate Ndoumbe Bosso’s team from a struggling New Stars of Douala who remain rooted in the drop zone.

Today’s result pushed Yosa two places up the table from 9th to 7th spot on 29 points, 9 away from the leader Eding Sport and at the same time maintains New Stars of Douala at the 17th spot on 17 points on the log table.

Ndoumbe Bosso said the match was very difficult for his team because they were playing a team at the bottom of the league who were doing everything to stay afloat. He puts his team’s recent run of results to the fact that many of his injured players are back. “You see they are so many players who were injured at the end of the first round, we tried to bring them back and the group is better than at the end of the first round” he said.

Coach Kamogne Momo David of New Star blamed his team’s defeat to a mental barrier which his boys are still unable to overcome due to their low placing on the table and hopes to see them defeat it with time to avoid the drop.

This was New Stars’ 10th match on the road and they are yet to win a single game, while for the host, this was the 10th home game (two defeats in Buea due to suspension of home ground) with five wins and three defeats.

Elsewhere, Lion Blesse of Foutouni picked its first win of the campaign with a spectacular 1-0 victory over the current league leader Eding Sport in Bafang, victory failed to take them out of the relegation zone but open up a whole new prospect of survival if they continue like this. For the other results, Bamboutos of Mbouda beat Feutchue by 2-1 in Bafoussam , Les Astres and Unisport of Bafang separated on a 1-all parity while Union surrendered a two goal lead to draw two-all at home to Apejes of Mfou.
