Russia2018: Nigeria Beats Cameroon To  Remain Favourite

Nigeria's Supper Eagles Flying Over Lions to Russia2018

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon suffered a 0-4 pounding in the hands of the Super Eagles of  Nigeria this afternoon, to remain seven points clear off the top of Group B of the African Zone qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Russia2018.

A goal apiece from Odion Ighalo (29’) skipper Mikel Obi (43’), Victor Moses (56’) and substitute Kelechi Iheanacho(77’) ensured  Nigeria sealed all three points of the day, leaving the Lions to leak their wounds

Cameroon started the stronger at a capacity filled Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. But the Super Eagles soon regrouped and found their rhythm, pushing the lions to the foreground. China based Ighalo put Nigeria ahead after receiving a fine pass from his skipper Mikel in the 29th minute. Obi Mikel later made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute when he reacted first to reach a low cross from the right by Victor Moses.

The game was put beyond the lame Lions shortly after the recess when  Victor Moses combined with Moses Simon before slotting home from inside the box. Youngster, Iheanacho, who came in for the injured Ighalo, confirmed the victory at the 77th minutes.

The results means the Lions are all but eliminated, while the Nigerians in the same token have all but qualified. It would mean the Lions win all three remaining matches and hope results of Nigeria’s other two games go their way. While awaiting the result of the  Zambia versus Algeria Game tomorrow, which can cut Nigeria’s lead at the top to 5 points, failure to reach Russia2018 would be all the Super Eagle’s undoing.
