UB Strike: 6 Wounded, Cars Destroyed, Campus Militarised

Reports from an official of the University of Buea who does not wish to be named indicate that 6 UB security guards have been wounded and at least three cars belonging to the administration have been destroyed by the irate University of Buea students. One of the cars( a govt vehicle) set ablaze infront of the central adminsitartion is said to be belonging to one of the Deputy Vice Chancellors Professor Victor Julius Ngoh.

The students are also said to have set fire on the security post on the second gate to the University campus.

An official of UB confirmed that the students are demanding that charges of taking the VC hostage during the last strike at the Buea court of first instance to be suspended and for fresh 1st semester exams to be set for some of the irate students.

' During a meeting on monday the VC, DR Nalova Lyonga said she did not take any matter to court and could not order that the charges be dropped. She equally told the students that she did not prevent the students from writing the first semester exams and so the administration could not set fresh exams for the students," said a UB official who said the strike was carried out by just a handful

Security forces are reported to have forced their way through the barricades mounted by the students and are at the time of filing in this report dispersing the students with tear gas.

Reports say notice board at the faculty of SMS were all destroyed.
