U.S Citizens in Yaounde Put on Alert by Authorities

The United States Government has alerted her citizens living in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, to take proper security measures when moving around, to avoid being arrested.

In a release published recently, the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde said there are arrests currently going on in Yaounde for reasons yet to be known.

“U.S. embassy in Yaounde informs U.S. citizens that, they are aware of a series of arrests throughout Yaounde today for as yet unidentified causes, and advice all U.S. citizens to take proper identification at all times, and to exercise extreme caution if moving around the city,” the statement reads in part.

Authorities in Cameroon’s capital warned of a possible presence of Separatist fighters in Yaounde, with the arrival of several internally displaced persons from conflict-stricken Anglophone Regions.

The U.S. Embassy further cautions its citizens to respect various security measures, as security forces have been carrying out several raids and arresting persons in suspected neighbourhoods but no official reasons have yet been given for the arrests.
