Two clubs to represent Cameroon in Continental Competition

Only two teams will fly the flag of Cameroon in the up coming continental competition scheduled to begin in the coming days. The decision was taken by CAF following the poor show recorded by Cameroonian teams during the 2017 edition.

Out of six matches disputed in the group stage, Coton sport did not win any and was ranked last in the group. Their poor show led to a drop from the 12th  to the 13th position on the CAF  5 year ranking, consequently down reducing the number of places for Cameroonian teams in CAF club competitions.  Following the ranking for 2018 CAF Champions League and 2018 CAF Confederation Cup, CAF took into consideration CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup results of the various clubs from each country involved  from 2012 to 2016 season. Cameroon was ranked 13, on 12 points just one point behind Nigeria on 13 points at the 12 spot.

Going by CAF, teams that fall between one and 12 send in four clubs (two in champions league and two in confederations cup) while those teams above position 13 are send in two clubs, on for each competition.

From four teams, in 2017 when Cameroon was ranked 11th on 19 points,  Cameroon in 2018 has been over taken by Zambia that moves from 18 position on 4 points in 2017 ranking to 11 spot on 18 points in the 2018 ranking.

Cameroon will represented by two teams, that is the champions of the 2016/2017 season and the winner of the Cup of Cameroon. In the Total CAF Champion League, Eding FC will represent Cameroon while the winner of the 2017 edition of the Cup of Cameroon will play in the Total CAF Confederation Cup.
