For the first time in over four decades, a top flight league match would be play at night in Cameroon. The “Top Match” of the 22nd day of play and a sawa derby between third placed Union of Douala (35 points) and fifth placed New Stars of Douala (33 points) will be played at night.

Kick off at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium has been program for 7 pm on Saturday June 18, 2016 and would be broadcast live on Canal2, the official broadcaster of the league. League President General Pierre Semengue told the press in Bamenda on Sunday after presiding over the top Match of the 21 day of play between Yong Sport Academy and Les Astres of Douala, that this will not be the first and last time Cameroonians would be watching Elite One matches at night. He said the next Top Match in the West would also be played at night at the newly constructed Bafoussam Ominisport Stadium. The League President said Cameroon now boost of stadiums capable of hosting late kick off, notably that of Limbe and Bafoussam.

But he refuted allegations that he is using the top matches for campaigns to remain in office ahead of impending elections for the league top job. General Pierre Semengue has been to Loum and Bamenda in the precedent playing days to watch these top matches and is expected to be in Limbe on Saturday as well for the Union vs New Stars Top Match. He also promised to attend at least one Top Match in the major regions of the country, announcing that he would love to attend others in Douala, Yaounde and Garoua.
