State House: President Paul Biya unveils a three-year national development vision

President Paul Biya has presided over a council of Ministers meeting at State House this Tuesday, 9th December 2014.

The meeting which started at 12 midday was attended by all but four Cabinet members.

Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang led the Government Ministers to the State House.

Though the session was held in-camera, it is being hinted that there was an evaluation of the country’s Growth and Employment Strategy Paper that was conceived on 15th December 2011, one week after the present Philemon Yang government was put in place.

The first of the two articulations was an occasion for Prime Minister, Philemon Yang to update the President on the economic program.

The much expected communication from President Paul Biya touched a number of key national economic development issues.

The President announced the implementation of an Emergency Plan on National Development to be carried out within three years.

He announced that Government shall work with some commercial banks to mobilise 1000 billion FCFA to finance key sectors including water and energy, agriculture, livestock, urban development and road networks.

It is worth indicating that the last Council of Ministers’ meeting was held on the 27th of November 2012.

The fact that the meeting was organised this 9th December 2014, exactly three years after the present Philemon Yang government was put in place has left many speculating.

While many believe a cabinet reshuffle is insight, others think the Emergency National Development Plan to begin in 2015 is the beginning of adequate response to the real problems faced by Cameroonians.
