Simon Nkwenti is No more

The death has been announced of Simon Nkwenti, civil society leader and executive president of the Cameroon Teachers’ Trade Union (CATTU) this morning after a brief illness. He died at the Bamenda Regional.

Simon Nkwenti was a front line crusader for the creation of the Bamenda University and spent most of his professional life fighting for the betterment of teachers’ conditions and their status.

He was born in Mamfe in 1964 to the family of Mama Esther and Peter Nkwenti of Chomba.

He did his primary education in Presbyterian schools – Mamfe and Chomba in that order later attended CPC Bali and NACHO Comprehensive College where he obtained the G.C.E O/L and A/L in respectively.

After high school, He taught briefly in LCC Mankon and with the Presbyterian Education Authority. He later put in a brief spell with the then Radio Cameroon in Bamenda but returned to the original call when he entered Ecole Normale in 1989. As a teacher, he has served in Ngambe – Tikar, Ako, Nwa and Akwaya areas of the Northwest.
