Santa: CPDM, SDF deadlocked over post of deputy mayor

CPDM-SDF

The CPDM in Santa has vowed to fight with all its might what they termed the imposition of an SDF deputy mayor by the administration of Mezam on the CPDM majority run council.

“The CPDM hierarchy would decide on the injustice that has been done, the imposition of a list, because the list we have as deputy mayors is not the list voted” Khan Moses Elroy, Mayor Elect complained bitterly.

“They should have asked us to go back and readjust the list and voting done, but the list was not voted, it means it was imposed on us” he fumed.

Earlier Mezam SDO Nguelle Felix had asked the two camps to produce a consensus list which they failed to do after over an hour of recess. Both sides resumed the session still in a stalemate and proceeded to nominate two lists for voting in plenary.

The CPDM list won the SDF list by 31 to 10 votes.  It was here the SDO reminded the counselors that voting of deputies is by list and proportionate representation. The CPDM vehemently refused any moves to include an SDF counselor  in the Executive forcing the SDO to invoke the electoral quotient which means the number of electors divided by the number of positions.

This gave a quotient of 10.25, meaning the SDF gets a deputy mayor position. Since the CPDM refused to negotiate, the first on the SDF list was included in the CPDM list to replace the last on the list.

The CPDM camp strongly criticized the decision of the supervisory authority, citing a similar situation in 2007 when the SDF with 31 counselors got all four positions of deputy mayors.

“This is great injustice to the people of Awing” the mayor elect said.

Khan Elroy said if nothing is done, the CPDM would be killed in Awing, because as one of the biggest villages in Santa, they are not represented in the Council Executive.

“Pinyin alone has two of the 5 executive positions because of the imposed deputy mayor” he said

Carlistus Gentry, Central Committee Delegation leader said the matter would be taken up by the party hierarchy and the party lawyers have been informed.

Senator Achidi Achu who was present at the session told the press he would have calmed the situation if he was given the opportunity but the SDO refused him such opportunity.

The Mezam and Santa administration labeled by the CPDM camp as SDF sympathizers  have told the aggrieved parties to take the matter to court if they felt cheated.  Meanwhile the list of the council executive has already been validated by the supervisory authorities.
