A total of 577 projects worth 18.94 billion CFAF will be executed in the Northwest region in 2015 under the Public Investment Budget (PIB) according statistics released by the Northwest Regional Follow Up Committee for the PIB, meeting in Bamenda yesterday.

68 of these projects will be controlled from the central level totaling 11.7 billion, and the rest will be supervised from the regional level.

According to Mrs. Mundi Regina, president of the regional follow up Committee, all projects for 2015 would be awarded before April 2015 and by mid February all tender files must be at the level of the ministry of Public Contract.

She described timing as the major problem causing the delays in the execution of public contracts in the country. “All job holders are being solicited to make sure that they keep the deadlines, follow the deadlines that they have set for themselves because if the documents don’t get to the contracting agents on time then there will be a problem” she  said.

555 of the 594 projects earmarked for the region in 2014 were completed giving a realization rate of 86.78%, though financial execution stood at 65.82% while 32 of these projects are still ongoing and 7 are yet to be started at all.

The follow committee meeting brought together MPs, mayors, administrators and civil society members from across the region
