Fear and consternation gripped workers of the Mezam Divisional Delegation of Lands Tenure, located at Up Station Bamenda, following the discovery of a python on Tuesday September 1, 2015, in one of the offices.

Workers of the delegation said they found and killed the python early on Tuesday morning. They dissected it to find a 50 frs coin and a paper fully intact bearing the names of some staff.

Panic stricken workers of the delegation said one of theirs whose name is on the list had died after a protracted illness, while another is critically sick at the moment.

Meanwhile many questions abound as to who found the python, who ordered that it should be dissected, and how could the paper bearing the names still be a intact?

While the public still reels with these questions in their minds, some of the workers are so afraid to resume work while others have resulted to unorthodox and orthodox means to protect themselves.

The Mezam Divisional Delegation of Lands Tenure is the biggest and busiest in the Northwest Region and handles all applications for land certificates in Bamenda and the entire Division. The delegation is flooded by thousands of such applications. Many users of it services have decried the extremely high level of extortion and the seemingly cumbersome process and administrative highhandedness involved processing and obtaining a land certificate.

Others are of the opinion that this could be the result of an aggrieved victim. pythons are considered as mystical creatures in parts of the northwest and are often killed preemtively for this reason.
