MPs get two additional months

National assembly

Members of the 8th legislation have voted to extend their mandate by two more months. The bill introduced by the government was passed on Saturday afternoon at the National Assembly. The bill had earlier been discussed and adopted by the constitutional laws committee and later on in plenary by the entire chamber.

The mandate is extended for two months, from May 23 to July 23. The MPs are expected to attend one more session in June that will allow both chambers (parliament and senate) to come together for the first time.

In closing the session, the President of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, thanked members for their availability and invited them for the Francophonie session and later the June session which will be the last for the MPs before new elections.

The extension of MPs mandate also implies the same for municipal councillors, they would stay in office for another two months.
