Rev Festus Ambe Asana Moderator of the PCC

Jan, 22 2012

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, the Rt Rev Dr Festus Asana, has laid the foundation stone of PC Mbei in Santa Presbytery. The historic event took place January 22,2012 with a Divine service that started at 9am.

In his spiritual message to the Christians on the occasion drawn from Mt 5:9-16 on the theme, “you are the light of the world,” the Rt Rev Dr Festus Asana congratulated the Mbei community for the mighty church house constructed for the glory of God. Such an occasion he highlighted also enables him to get to the grassroots and see what the Christians are doing in their various congregations.

With the erection of the church house, it is the conviction of the Moderator that the membership will increase and this can only be possible if the Christians shine as the light of the world. The PCC Chief Shepherd therefore called on the faithfuls to be agents of God’s spirit and show who God is by example.

The occasion was marked by a chain of speeches by  the Congregational  Chairperson of Mbei, the Presbytery Chairperson for Santa, Mr Mbah Micheal Shupong, the Project National Chairperson, Dr Mokom Pius, Elite like Prince Mokom Daniel, Honourable Simon Achidi Achu, the DO for Santa as well as the Presbyterial Secretary for Santa the Rev Ngwa Hosea, who all join their voices to thank God for this special day, a day which they said will go down the annals of the history of Mbei for receiving the Moderator in the Parish for the first time adding that his presence has reassured and revived the spirit of the Christians to do more for the glory of God. They also used the opportunity to advocate for some institutions to be created in Santa and pledged to provide all the necessary resources to lay the ground work.

During the service over 36 Christians were readmitted while a good number of infants and adults were baptized and confirmed. Some devoted Christians also received certificates of recognition for the selfless service offered to promote God’s work in the Parish.

The high point of the laying of the foundation stone after the rites were performed by the Moderator was a grand fundraising to complete the church house of PC Mbei. At the end of this exercise, over FCFA2.5million was realized for the purpose.

The Moderator also left Mbei with very lasting memories as HRH the Fon of Mbei decorated him with a special traditional regalia and the title, “Gandhi,” was conferred on him. The

occasion was marked by the presence of a college of clergy, Elite within and out of Mbei who have been very instrumental in contributing wholeheartedly towards the construction of the church house of Mbei. The Moderator was also accompanied by a special delegation to perform this significant exercise.

It is worth noting that Mbei village was introduced into Christianity by the Basel Mission in the early 1930s and has evolved through the some very active forefathers who led the church until the PCC gained autonomy from the Basel Mission. Meanwhile tremendous efforts have been made by PC Mbei especially from the 20th millennium such as the creation of a prayer cell at mile 12 which was later on granted full congregational status and most importantly PC Mbei has nurtured and come out with three pastors for the PCC.
