Lions to challenge Cartage Eagles in decisive World cup qualifier

CAF World Cup draws Cairo

CAF World Cup draws Cairo

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon now know which hurdle to overcome to make it a record 7th appearance at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, the Lions were drawn against the Cartage Eagles of Tunisia following yesterday draws at the CAF headquarters in Cairo Egypt.

They Lions avoided the inform Ivory Coast and Ghana in a draw that was full of suspense conducted by Gordon Savic, Head of Olympic and FIFA World Cup Qualifying. The most anticipated clash is between the Ivory Coast and Senegal, two West African rivals while the three Arab sides carefully avoided each other. Egypt would take on Ghana, World Cup quarter finalist in South Africa; Algeria confronts Africa Cup of Nation runners up Burkinafaso and Tunisia takes on Cameroon. The Last tie would see the super Eagles of Nigeria take on Ethopia, the surprise package at this stage.

But for Ethopia and Burkinafaso, all the teams have been world cup finalist with Cameroon haven’t made it into the final phase 6 times. Egypt is attempting to reach the world cup final after a barren 23 years since their last appearance in 1990.

The first-leg matches will take place between 11 and 15 October, with the return matches being played between 15 and 19 November. Cameroon would play the away match in Tunis before the decisive return leg in Yaoundé in November.  The Lions are expected to go into the two legged tie without the presence of their intimidating captain Samuel Eto’o Fils who announced his retirement from international football in Yaoundé after the 1-0 victory over Libya on September 8.
