HRH Fon Asa’ahna II of Njong has been released from custody after tens of hundred of his subjects stormed the Mezam’s SDO office early Wednesday to press for his release from detention.

He was taken into custody on Friday May 3rd alongside three of his notables following an administrative detention order issued by the SDO for refusing to corporate with authorities to identify those behind the destruction of property in neighbouring Bamock village.

Addressing the people of Njong hours after they stormed his office, staging a sit down protest in front, Mr. ngulle Nguelle Felix warned them not to take the law into their hands again.

“We live in a state of law, Cameroon is a state of law and nobody is above the law and what should exist is peaceful coexistence” he address the crowd.

“I can assure you your Fon would be released today, either by the judiciary or by me” he told the crowd.

Earlier in the day, close to two thousand youths, men and women of Njong started arriving the esplanade of the SDO’s office in taxis, bikes and trucks. By 8 am the compound was jammed to full and a short while later their representative alongside former minister John B Ndeh were called in to the SDO’s office for close door meeting.

When they emerged from the meeting the crowd was asked to wait for the courts to release the fon. Shortly after, the crowd moved to the Mezam High court premises where they spend the entire day waiting for the court to sit.

Fon Asa’ahna was finally set free later afternoon ad had to go back to the Bamenda central prison to sign his release documents. But his people saw this as another ploy to take him back to detention and blocked the truck transporting him on its way to the prison. The prison officials after consultation with the authorities decided to let him go.

It is still not clear under what conditions he was release.
