Fon Asa’ahna traditionally introduced to the people of Njong

Mbigha Galicious has been traditionally presented to the public as the new Fon of Njong Village during a ceremony to bid farewell to the missing Fon Nganfen, that took place at the Njong Fon Palace esplanade on Thursday December 6th 2012.

Following the disappearance of Fon Nganfen in 2005, Mbigha Galicious  was chosen to replace him and assumed the title of Fon Asa’ahna II but was yet to be officially presented to the village as the new Fon.

Fon Asa’ahna speaking to the press at the said the ceremony all together symbolizes the official transfer of authority and power to him by the secret societies and the entire village.

Key moments of the ceremony known as Adzaagh in Njong dialect included the performance of traditional rites up the hills surrounding the village announcing the disappearance of the late Fon, the traditional introduction of the newly found Fon in the morning and later followed by the sack cloth removal by the entire village, body cleaning in the stream, and then the beating of drums calling for the return of the Fon to the palace.

This was followed by a series of traditional displays by the princes and princesses, palace women, the Takengbeng and other dances. The highlight of this was the slaughtering of a goat in front of the public and the blood used to rub the feet of the new fon to transfer all authority to him.

Present at the ceremony were the traditional rulers of Awing, Baba II, Bamali, Fingui, Mankon, Mbuh, Mbei, Mbatu and  Nsongwam the D.O for Santa Diyen jam Lawrence and his assistant, the chairman of the SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi who also came with a dance group to grace the occasion.

Activities will continue up to Friday December 14 with various quarters in the village taking parts in turn in activities at the palace.
