Elite One: Yosa Kicks Start Second Phase On Bad Foot

Lion Blesse Vs Yosa

Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda recorded two back-to-back defeats in five days following the restart of the Elite One championship on June 17, 2015, with away defeats in Bafang and Douala. The Bamenda outfit slumped to a 1-2 defeat against Lion Blesse of Foutouni in Bafang on Wednesday and surrendered a two goal lead in Douala against Astres on Sunday June 21, 2015 to go down 2-3.

On Wednesday, Yosa squandered several goal scoring opportunities in a match they completely dorminated. Particularly guilty were Mawobe Ntouba and Kongnyuy Jude who were presented with clear goal scoring opportunities but failed to concretize them. And punished they were, when playmaker Bomba Salop headed in the first goal from a corner kick at the 54th minutes after some poor marking by Laiver Burinyuy lead to Kombouo Fanedouo conceding the corner.

Two minutes later Yosa’s defense was split open again by the same Bomba when he pounced on some poor clearing by the defense line to slam a shot 20 metres out to beat Nyokon Tonye for the second goal.

Awono Junior was able to reduce tally at the 71st minute to give hopes of a comeback but this was never to be especially after Kongnyuy Jude was presented with an open goal after Moukoko Moussombo had beaten the keeper at his near post, but he completely mistimed his efforts.

“We created several chances but were unrealistic in front of goal” Kamga Justin, coach of Yosa bemoaned after the match. “They had their opportunity and they took it. We paid the price of naivety in front of goal”

For Akosemoh Theodore, Yosa’s vice captain, the goal demoralized them “actually I can’t really tell because we dominated the game and had a lot of chances but didn’t take them, and when they scored they completely demoralized us that is why we conceded the second goal shortly afterwards”IMG_0251

Looking up to the next game, Akosemoh Theodore assured me that if Lion Blesse could pick they double over them, so to could they over Les Astres in Douala. And this seems to be on the offing when Yosa restarted the second segment of the game with two quick goals by Nkafu Alain and Nkambfu Gilbert at the 46th and 48th minutes to take an early lead after the break.

But this was short lived as a resurgence Astres pulled back one through Fossouo Kuate Fabrice from the penalty spot after Ojong Ekuri attempted clearance of a corner inside the box rolled up to his hand at the 70th minute. Four minutes later, Captain Heumi Kabon Christian restored parity with a looped ball over Ngam Leonard who misjudged the ball’s trajectory. The same Fossouo was on hand again to put the host ahead for the first time in the game. This was at the 80th minute of the game and all efforts to come back into the game proved futile for Yosa who recorded back to back defeats to kick start the return leg of the championship.

Kamga Justine blamed the second defeat to poor positioning and placing errors but promised to continue working towards their goal. We ended the away leg classified third despite losing our first game at home, we have lost but expect to bounce back soon he said.

It was the same optimism expressed by Akosemoh who says they still hold the goal for one of the three continental tickets and that all is not yet lost.

Yosa’s next two games are at home against New Stars of  Douala and Fovu club of Baham. The team classified 10th on 28 points absolutely need victories in both games to re-launched its continental bid.
