The Capitol Higher Institute of Health Sciences and Beauty Therapies (Capitol) remains one of the few institutions of its kind in the country that continues to put the needs of Cameroonians ahead of other interests. Amongst the many higher training institutes of health in the Northwest and the country in general, Capitol prides itself as the most affordable in terms of tuition.

The CEO of Capitol, Ngalah Edwards told Bamenda Online recently that students aiming for the Higher National Diploma (HND) a three year course in nursing, laboratory technology and beauty therapies,  pay a total of  690,000 frs CFA in three installments of 220,000 (twice) and  250,000 frs only and a registration fee of 10,000 frs. For the midwifery and nursing assistants the tuition stands at 250,000 and 125,000 frs respectively, payable in three installments as well.

For international students, Capitol he said still offers very attractive tuition rates. Students from other African countries pay an additional ¼ of the amount paid by nationals while those coming in from the rest of the world pay an additional ½ the amount. Students from Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana or Sierra Leone for example pay an additional 172,500 or lump sum of 862,500 Frs CFA and  a student from the Britain or America would pay a total of 1,035,000 Frs.

There also exist special tuition incentives to journalist and drivers, a professional group the CEO says help students of the institution in one way or the other by transporting them to and fro school and informing them. Any member of these professions who sends a family member or child to Capitol pays a total of 670,000 instead of 690,000 frs.

Asked if the low fee rate does not affect the level of training, Mr. Ngalah said it was far from that because Capitol offers American standard training and also works in partnership with national and international partners and is working with the University of Maryland USA to offer post graduate certificate in Global Health. Students from the USA would be expected to come to Capitol to learn about the health situation of Cameroon and other African Countries in defense of their Global Health certificates offered by the University of Maryland-USA.

Besides, Capitol has always produced some of the best national results in the HND, usually scoring a 100%. The school recently scored a 100% in the HND 2016 session in Nursing and Laboratory Science only one of the few in the region thanks to the quality of staff employed. Capitol also carries qualitative placement (internships) with it partner hospitals across the country.

Ntoh Fedelis and Fadimatou Mangeh two former students of Capitol now working at the Bamenda Regioanl Hospital and the Akum Holy Family Medical Center Akum respectively in testimonies sent to the school describe Capitol as outstanding in its training and affordable to many Cameroonians and encourage other to seize the opportunity to study there.

Capitol as from August 2016 would migrate from its temporary campus into its permanent site at Mile 8 Mankon, a modern structure with up to date facilities, air-conditioned classrooms and a serene environment.
