B’da I Council Votes 769M For 2021 Budget

Mayors of Bamenda I at the budgetary session

 Bamenda I municipality will run on an estimated budget of 769 298 406 FCFA for the fiscal year 2021. This was voted at during a council budgetary session held on December 30, 2020, at the Bamenda I council hall.

The 2021 budget saw a 71.34% increase in absolute value to that of 2020 which stood at 448,966,512 FCFA, that is an increase of 320,331,894 Frs. in real term

Mayor Mbigha Felix outlined his vision for the municipality which he described as one of the poorest in the region. This involves combating the ghost town with all necessary force available. He announced that the council will buy and put commercial motorbikes into circulation so as to defeat the ghost towns. He also promised to improve on the road network, equip the palace museum so as to attract tourist and continue with the embellishment of some public places.

The D.O for Bamenda I Gulai Gilbert Baldena joined the mayor to encourage all the councilors to go out and sensitize the public about measure taken by the council with regard to offices and businesses that will respect the Monday ghost town calls.

Beginning Monday January 4, 2021 the council accompanied with security officers will proceed to seal businesses that observe the ghost town he said. Heavy penalties await defaulters he concluded.

During the session, the Mayor introduced the Regional Councilors representing Bamenda I Municipality at the Regional Council. Tantoh Emmanuel and Mrs Anoh Olivia (Queen Mother of the Bamendankwe) will represent the interest of the municipality at the regional council for the next five years. He told them to carry their cries for more subventions to trickle down to the council.
