Bamenda II Council Joins Schools to Fight Against Covid-19

Mayor Peter Chenwi has supervised and assisted in the reconstruction work of some dormitory blocks at PSS Mankon recently destroyed during a fire incident. The Mayor used the opportunity to call on school authorities to enforce barrier measures against Covid-19. The stopover at PSS Mankon on March 13, 2021 was part of a disinfection exercise the Bamenda II Council was carrying out in some primary and secondary schools within the municipality.
At PSS Mankon Mayor Chenwi said his coming was in response to a call by the SDO asking the Bamenda II Council to urgently look into the reconstruction of the school after some of it dormitories were consumed by fire in January 2021. He was accompanied on the trip by the 1st and 2nd Deputy mayors. and a host of councilors and staff.

He handed over face masks, soap and buckets the the school authorities. Vice Principal of the second circle Mr Echu Jack Mendi receiving on behalf of the school thank the mayor and his team for the wonderful gesture and promised to judiciously use them for the benefit of the student population of the school.

The mayor and his entourage also visited GBHS Down Town, Government Bilingual Primary School Old Town and the Government Practicing School Old Town to hand over similar mateerial to help in the fight against Covid -19 .”We don’t want schools to be suspended in our region because that is our main priority” the mayor stressed.

The mayor advised the heads of the various schools, the teachers, students and pupils to strictly follow government and WHO guidelines and instructions from the head of state on how to stay safe from Covid-19 and prevent its further spread. He added that the Prime Minister and head of government, the ministers of Higher, Secondary and Basic education have called for school, Hospitals, shops and public places to be disinfected
.”If we call ourselves local authorities then we must respect state instructions” Mayor Peter Chenwi emphasized at every stop over. “We don’t have any companies in the Northwest, our only company is education that is why the council is taking the responsibility to disinfect the schools…we cannot talk about reconstruction without talking about health and protection of life so the school authorities should equally take responsibility” he added. He concluded by reminding all that Covid-19 is real and dangerous.
