Baligham: Elvis Gahyam II officially Recognised as Gah

May, 30 2012

Elvis Gahyam II has been officially recognized by the administration of Mezam as the new Fon of Baligham, a 2nd class fondom in Santa subdivision of the Northwest, on May 29, 2012.

This was after 5 hours of consultative talks between the SDO for Mezam accompanied by the D.O for Santa, Diyan Jam Lawrence and the kingmakers, notables of Baligham and the fons from some neighbouring villages.

The SDO called on the new fon to assume the role of a father over the people of Baligham, respect his colleagues and to rely on the advice of his brothers and sisters as one and the village as a whole in the face of difficulties.

He also warned distracters to keep to keep aside their evil plans of destabilising the village and permit the new fon perform his duty.

The choice of fon Ghayam II was not an easy one to reach at. The SDO described the outcome of the talks as “a compromise between the written and unwritten”

According to the will of the late MST Galabe, revealed at the talks by the fon of Bagam, a neighbouring village of the West region, Elvis Galabe was not the choice to succeed him “I asked him severally about Elvis Galabe, but he said he does not like to exposed his dirty linen to me” the fon of Bagam said in French referring to a conversation he had with the late Gah on the day he handed him the will.

The 7 kingmakers of Baligham in a statement during the process remained adamant on their choice of Elvis Galabe to become the next Gah. They said the fon’s willed successor could still be replaced by the kingmakers with a choice they deem is competent enough and represents the general good of the village. Fon Gahyam II according to them worked closely with his father for the past 10 years and knows the secrets and inner workings of the palace and village.

Princess Beatrice Galabe, the 21st child of the late fon accepted the choice of Fon Gahyam II as such, but said the spirit of their father will hunt the kingmakers and notables if they have other ulterior motives behind their choice made against the late man’s will, an opinion common amongst some princesses and princes.

Also present at the ceremony were the fons of Akum, Awing, Mbei and Bamock all closs neighbours to Baligham. Others were like Baligasin, Balikumbat and Bali Nyonga failed to honour the invitation to attend the ceremony according to one of the princes.
