Baligham: BASU receives Ntumfor Jonathan’s 4th scholarship Award

Some 45 pupils and students belonging to Baligham Students' Union Association (BASU) have benefitted over 500 000 CFA Frs. as scholarships in the 4th edition of the Ntumfor Fru Jonathan Academic Award that held at the Baligham Village Community Hall on July 28, 2012.

“Our mission here is threefold” Ntumfor told the closed to 2000 pupils, students, parents and village notables that turn out for the ceremony.

“We have come to see the new Gah and pay our respect, secondly thank the people of Baligham for the political support the lend the CPDM in the last presidential election and thirdly to continue with our recognition of excellence and to encourage the youths of Baligham to be hard working and to take their education serious” Ntumfor  said.

He also announced that they would be back in Baligham in August to hand over books and other school aids to BASU.

The first four all-round best students from the four secondary schools and lone computer institute in Baligham received each 15 000, 10 000, 7500 and 5000 Frs. from first to fourth in that order, while the best two pupils in the Government Common Entrance Examination from all the primary schools in the village received 2000 Frs. each as encouragement. The four secondary schools concern are GSS, GTC, SAR/SM and Rhama college

Liwa Fred, BASU president thanked their benefactor Ntumfor Fru Jonathan for helping to push up the standard of education in Baligham with his yearly academic awards. He described him as a true Cameroonian and unifier whose efforts of nation building stretch beyond bounds.

His Royal Highness, Doh Gahnyam II promised Ntumfor of their continued support for him.  He told his people that Ntumfor and his close collaborators are people of their words. He cited the construction of a new community hall, the two roads into the village from Santa and a classroom block at GTC Baligham as fallout from their pre-election promise.

“Politics na njangi” the Fon said using the words of Hon Achidi Achu, a tacit reference to their commitment to continuously vote for the CPDM in order to attract more development to their community.

Hon. Simon Achidi Achu, former prime minister, used the occasion to call on the people of Baligham not to neglect agriculture which he said is the surest investment in the world.

Overwhelmed by the turnout and support of the Baligham people, Hon Achidi lauched an impromptu fund raising to complete the floor of the Village Hall, with the donation of sixty bags of cement. This was followed by another 30 bags of cement by Ntumfor Fru Jonathan and the collection of 43 500 CFA Frs. in cash on the spot.

Also present at the ceremony was the assistant divisional officer for Santa Mofor Boniface, section executive of the Mezam II CPDM, Baligham sunsection Exco and traditional notables from Baligham and Mbei villages
