Yosa vs Canon Sep. 03, 2017

The result from Bamenda this afternoon made for very bad reading in Yaoundé and along the corridors of football power in Cameroon, as Yong Sort Academy, created a couple of decades back beat Le Kpakum by 3-0 to finally confirm the relegate status of Cameroon’s second most successful club, Canon Sportive of Yaounde (10 league titles)

Nke Diuedonne -Canon

Nke Dieudonne, the head coach of Canon despite this result remained upbeat that his team would beat the drop once again. “Did they not beat the Lions the other day 4-0? we will play, the championship continues. We could have scored first; unfortunately Bamenda scored first and we have to work hard for the rest of the competition. Thank you. Thank you” a disappointed Nke Dieudonne not willing to talk to the press said.

The first half of the encounter ended in a stalemate, with fans of Yong Sport becoming increasing frustrated and agitated with the performance of the centre referee  Golike Roger whom they swore had soiled his hands. But this frustration soon turned into rapturous joy at the 53 minutes.  Team captain Awono Junior reacted quickest to tap in a cross from the right by Alim Douda following some beautiful work by Alim and Kilah Gilbert. Theree minutes later, the same right wing combination pushed the visiting defense to the wall, leaving the  Central African import, Quincy Benzi to slot in at point blank range.

The icing on the cake was reserved for left back, Ntieche Eric, at the 84th minutes when he worked his way from Yosa’s half through a series of inter positional passes to receive an over head ball some 38 metres out and released a thunderbolt that that left the keeper for Canon Helpless.

Despite all the pressure mounted by the visitors, the scoreline will remained unchanged. For Emmanuel Ndumbe Bosso, Coach of Yosa, the result meant their dream of a continental ticket remains alive. He added, “this victory is to confirm Yosa’s superiority over Canon, winning home and away”

For Nkwenti Festus, attacker for Yong Sport Academy, the emphatic result was just to lay emphasis on the Bamenda –Yaounde Clash and Yosa had to defend its colour.

The result leaves Yong Sport Academy at 4th sport on 43 points, the same as Apejes of Mfou in the third spot. For results elsewhere; leaders Eding Sport pulled a draw against Bamboutos of Mbouda, in a surprise result, Cotonsport lost at home to visiting Astres of Douala 0-2, Apejes imposed a 4-1 win over Lion Blesse of foutouni, Aigle of Dschang lost at home0-1 to Stade Renard of Melong. Colombe continues its impressive escape from the gravity of relegation with a 2-0 victory over Unisport of Bafang in Yaounde. Dragon and Union Douala shared the points in Yaounde and in Limbe, New Stars lost to UMS of Loum by zero to two goals. Playing in Bafoussam, Feutchue comprised Racings chances of remaining in the top flight with a 4-2 victory.

Though matimatically, Canon (24) and Lion Blesse (25) are still in the race, the reality is that it would take a miracle for any of these teams to survive this season. With 15 more points to play for, Canon are eight points behind and can only save their season if they win all five remaining games and fervently pray, Racing, Aigle 32 points each and Les Atres and Colombe on 35 points each fail to win any of their remaining games.
