Yosa vs Astres Day 21

Yosa vs Astres Day 21

Billed as the top match of the 21st day of play in the National Elite One championship, Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda exacted revenge on Les Astres of Douala, securing a 3-1 home victory in front of the Professional Football league President and over 3000 fans that decided to defied the odds to show up at the remote Yosa  Sports Centre at mile VI Nkwen.

A silent football underground tension amongst the fans of Yosa ebbed ahead of the match as a heavy security presence dissuaded every disgruntled fan of the previous day of play, making way for an entertaining match. Beside, the League President General Pierre Semengue accompanied by his Secretary General, Manguele Theresia, the SDO of Mezam, representing the Governor of the North West Region, the SDF chairman Ni John Fru Ndi and the Fon of Nkwen Fon Azefor wher amongst the top dignitaries to grace the encounter.

Both teams engaged the match rather chivalrously, using the entire first segment to observe the other.  The first threat at goal come from the home side as skipper, Kongnyuy Jude rounded goalkeeper Kerrido Haschou as early as the 5th minutes but miscued his effort. Five minutes later it was the turn of Ngaleba Ndongo to waste a glorious chance as his effort at goal flew over the cross bar from close range. Kongnyuy Jude made up for his earlier miss when he dashed to the byline to head back into the penalty box, an inviting pass which was parried away  by the keeper after a goal mouth tussle. The first half ended without any major incident.

After the recess, It was not long after, that Les Astres’ Augustine Leroux missed the chance to get the cutting raiser when his close range shot flew inches above the cross bar, creating a sense of panic amongst the players and fans of YOSA. This near miss rather spurred up the home side as a minute later at the 54th minute, Ngome Ntombe raced into the box to pick up a slick pass from the right by Gilbert Killah only to tap his efforts into the hands of Kerrido Haschou.

Four minutes later Gilbert Killah was pushed down in the penalty box as he sneaked past Bertrand Owundi Ekoo. Refree Kouete Lemouchile did not hesitate to point to the spot. Awuno Junior stepped up to expertly convert the resulting kick for the first goal of the match.

Fans had not finished celebrating the opening goal when at the 68th minute; the Yosa Academy Playground was turned into a grave yard. Goal Keeper Mbem Leopold completely misjudged the trajectory of a ball from a free kick, leaving Jean Berteau Simo to nod into an empty net for the equalizer.

Coach Ndumbe Bosso immediately brought in the stylish Tamo Timwo at the 69th minute who wasted no time impacting the game with his first touch of the ball a minute later. He picked up the ball from the edge of the box, carved space for himself before unleashing a strike that beat Kerrido Haschou for the second time in the game, sending fans and supporters wild in celebration.

Two minutes later, it was the turn of team captain Kongnyuy Jude who pounced on a rebound following and effort out of the 18 yards by Ngong Lionel that forced Kerrido Haschou to parry the ball in the direction of Kongnyuy Jude.

3-1 it ended, maintaining Yosa at the Second spot on the log table, just two behind leaders USM of Loum.

I was very concentrated while at the bench and I seized my opportunity once the coach brought me on and I scored the

second goal that permitted us to win today. Our goal is to keep USM under pressure and hope they slip up soon. At the technical meeting before this match the coach made us understand that there was no room for errors following our defeat in Douala in the reverse fixture.

We let this match slipped off our hands after scoring soon after they had scored. We failed to manage the game well because we thought we could get a second goal to kill them off but it was not to be. We’ve lost, we turn our attention to the next match at home, we beat them away and they beat us here that is football.
