Senatorial2018: Hidden Camera Planted At Polling Station

Hidden Camera found at polling station in Mbengwi

The 134 councillors of the 5 sub divisions that make up Momo Division had rallied at the lone polling station, at Government Nursery School Mbengwi  Sunday, March 25 to join their colleagues nationwide elect the second  batch of senators. All was going on smoothly till about half past midday when a foresighted councilor spotted a surveillance camera lens,  planted at an angle in the hall directly above the voting booth. Before now more than three quarter of the councilors had already cast their votes.

Upon discovery, an alarm was raised. Tempers flared in the air. Accusations and the blame game started. The camera lens had been carefully covered with a pink cardboard paper and a little opening made on the paper through which the lens was able  to capture images. Security officers were the first to pull off the paper and behold, there stood the lens. They followed the cable connecting it and discovered its server hidden in the ceiling. The entire device was brought down.

It should be noted that on this day Mbengwi witnessed an unprecedented lengthy power failure from about 11:30am till about 5pm. So, whatever would've been captured, if at all it was capturing within the early hours of the voting exercise remains unknown.

In the course of dismantling the surveillance apparatus, several calls were made to higher quarters to notify them of the discovery.  The  likes of Minister Mbah Acha, Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique, Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi, the ELECAM regional boss, Honourable Mbah Ndam and others later on arrived the scene. The Momo adminstration, uniform officers and the polling agents briefed the state officials on the finding.

Things soon calm down and these officials returned and the voting continued. No other incident was reported after this.  Voting ended and counting was carried out hitch free. The security forces have opened up investigation to find out those behind the  "camera caché"
