Barely weeks after Senator Francis Bochong Nkwain passed away; the Northwest region has lost another senator. Senator Stephen Njikong Yerima from Donga Mantung gave up the ghost last Saturday at the Yaounde General Hospital; the same Day Senator Nkwain was being laid to rest in his native Njinikom.

His death brings to three the number of senators from the 100-member upper house to have fallen in the first year of their mandate. The first to kick the bucket was Senator Njifua Lucas Fontem, CPDM elected Senator from the South West Region who died on wednesday, April 2, followed by francis Nkwain on October 20th 2014.

Senator Yerima, 69 was a University lecturer for 34 years, a former Technical adviser at the PM’s office, former secretary general at the ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms and former board member of the CRTV, ENAM and SCDP, positions he held cumulatively with that of traditional ruller of Gwembe in Nwa in the Donga Mantung.

Its not certain whether a new senator will be appointed to replace the late Francis Nkwain who was appointed by the head of state, while by elections to replace the voted senator is yet to be announced.
