Santa: Road Accident leaves several injured

At least 8 persons were rushed to the Santa District Hospital with two in very critical condition following a car crash at the Santa Motor Park yesterday.  Most of the injured were passengers in a mini Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Mazi Travel Agency on its way to Bafoussam from Bamenda. Some of the injured were passersby and road side vendors.

The two passengers in the front seat had to be chiseled out by the population before they could be removed from the wreckage of the car with their limbs completely shattered. Upon arrival at the Santa District Hospital they had to be referred to the Mbingo Baptist Hospital for urgent medical attention. The mayor of Santa council Wanki Clement Atanga who arrived the scene shortly after the accident immediately intervened by offering the council Pick Up vehicle to transport them to Mbingo, a distance of about 65 Km .

Eyewitnesses says the minibus had lost control due to break failures around Mile 12 as it descended towards the Santa Main Market. The driver reportedly jumped over board when he realized that he had lost full control of the vehicle leaving the 16 passengers on board to their fate.

The vehicle hit four stationed cars parked around the market then rammed into a building opposite the Santa Motor Park before coming to a rest.  The accident also destroyed a phone booth and two pork roasting stands by the road side.

The driver suffered an injury to the head and sustained several bruises on the arm and legs in his effort to jump out of the car.
