Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Essimi Menyi has described the Santa Agric Equipment Pool as the first step towards the transformation of Northwest Agriculture into a second generation status that will stimulate the economic development of the region.

The minister was speaking in Santa yesterday will officially inaugurating the Agric Equipment Pool and installation of the officials to run it.

The minister reminded the farmers of Santa and the rest of the North West that agriculture is business and needs heavy investment. The equipment pool he continued will go a long way to transform not only the agriculture of the region, but the lively hood of the farmers and the economy of the region and add value to the farm products for higher income returns. He advised the farmer to up their production in order to supply the huge market that Nigeria presents with the linking of Bamenda and Enugu. The minister also announced that more modern farming equipments like harvesters will be brought in, in the days ahead.

The Equipment Pool is presently made up of 7 tractors of 90 horse power each, 5 harrows, 15 ploughs of different categories, 5 grain planters and 2 corn Shellers. According to Nutoto Godfrey, Regional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development Northwest, the equipments will be lend out to farmers at affordable rates to plow, soften, and plant large expanses of farms in order to ease work time and produce more yields. The two corn shellers, he said can shell over 2 tons of maize in one hour.

Mr. Mokom Vincent Achu and Mekonchu Tangwa Fabrice were both installed as Chief and Assistant chief of Post of the  Agricuture Equipment Pool Santa.
