Canon Dishes Out 2nd Home Defeat to PWD

Team PWD against Canon matchday 20

Les Kpakum this afternoon inflicted a second home defeat of the season to high flying PWD of Bamenda, in a 2-0 victory at the Yosa Stadium in a match day 20 action. USM of LUM, PWD’s next opponent was the first team in over three season to beat the Abakwa boys in Bamenda on the 3rd day of play in a 0-1 victory on November 3, 2019.

David Thophane Ngando reacted fastest to a poorly handled free kick by goalkeeper Rodrique Zame at the 46th minute of the first segment to hand the visitors the lead against the run of play. It was Canon’s first effort on goal and one that was too hot for the gloves of Zame, who could only punch Junior Anthony Mfede’s well timed free kick on to the cross bar.

And just like in the first half, Canon’s second goal came from a dead ball and in additional time. Alphonse Kevin Assiga stepped up to take free kick about 24 metres away from Zame’s goal. This time he didn’t give the goal keeper a chance as he beautifully slotted it above the human defense wall to seal a memorable victory in Bamenda and a sweat revenge for the defeat by PWD in Yaoundé in the away leg.

PWD of Bamenda had several chances of it own but could not take them or were faced with some superb goalkeeping exploits by the Canon number one. Ahudu Lukong and Meal Dindjeke were particularly wasteful in front of goal.  Mermoz Zospiro and Hulrich Ibakeleki had their efforts on targets saved by the goalie in the first half and Ahudu had his effort cleared over the line in the 63rd minute.

PWD of Bamenda came into the match missing several of its first team players to injury or to the national team. Absent were Chendo John Bosco (sick), Ade Milnorf (injury), Mbah Louis (injury) Njang Remoe (injury), Leon Boyomo (called up), John Paul (injry) and Brian Nyaba (called up).

PWD was so depleted that they had only 5 players available for substitution

The result though still leaves PWD in second spot level on points with Colombe FC but with a better goal difference. Current league leaders Coton Sport of Garoua could widen its lead at the top to seven points when they play against Panthere on Friday.
