PWD Regains League I With Victory

Coach Toguem Jean Baptist, the Man plotting the recent success story

The Abakwa Boys announced their return to the top flight with a 2-1 home win over Apajes of Mfou in Bamenda this afternoon. The goals were scored by veteran forward, Kongyuy Jude (5th min) and team captain Divine Ngi Mbeh (92nd min).

Both teams were engaged in a fierce battle for control of the midfield. After the Abakwa Boys had taken the lead, Apajes had the upper hand, dictating the pace which eventually led to the equalizer 10 min after.  The rest of the match will be a cagy affair with chances far between.

Toguem Jean Baptist at recess insisted his players take the game to Apajes, playing simply and effective football. He urged his full backs, Divine Ngi and Enoh Louis to pick up the two false attackers that were forcing Malachi and Mienolf backward, giving Apajes more freedom in the middle. This seems to work, with PWD becoming more imaginative in the second segment. But Apajes was still proving tough to crack. Kongnyuy Jude was particularly wasteful when he failed to seize his chances.

Toguem quickly noticed that Malachi battery was fast running low and brought in Mbah Louis  at the 73 minute whose fresh pair of lungs quickly turn the midfield battle in favour of PWD. Combine dwith the coming in of Manga  at the 83rd minute, the pressure continued to mount. It was Divine Ngi Mbeh who marched forward to convert Kagawa’s cross for the winning goal.

The victory adds to Yosa impressive 1-0 win away in Yaoundé to give Bamenda’s two out fit in the League a hundred percent record on day one. Toguem’s team sheet also shows his trust on the players that qualified him to league I, with only Fail Gilead, Tegang Kamga and Kongyuy Jude finding their way into the team.

PWD’s next match is another home game against Colombe FC of the South on Sunday February 10, 2019.
