The struggle to make it into the last 8 of the Northwest Regional league has taken a dramatic turn, following results of the 14th day of play with 15 of the 18 teams taking part in the competition still with a mathematical chance of making the cut.

Except for for Wayout Academy of Bamenda and Milano FC of Kumbo in pool A and Bui Leopards in Pool B, the rest of the teams are still with a chance to make it into the mini interpool phase of the competition that would finally produce the champions of the Northwest to play in the playoff for a place into the MTN Elite 2 next season.

Despite its 1:0 defeat in Bamenda against rival Rainbow FC last weekend, Nkambe FC are the only team certain to make the last 4 in pool A with 27 points this far. A win in their next game against Edu sport in Kumbo on day 16 would definitely book them a place no matter the other results/

Rainbow FC on 25 points would need 2 more victories to absolutely consolidate a top 4 finish in the pool. But this may not be easy as two of its remaining three games are against close rivals. They confront Mankon United on the last day, but before that they would need to negotiate their destiny in Bali against Rush FC.

Below these two teams are Tatecam FC (21 pts), Rush FA (20 pts), and Mankon United (18pts) who continue to put pressure on them. Still with a chance in the race are Edu Sport (17 pts) and Santos (14) but their destiny now lies with results elsewhere if they could win their remaining matches.

Pool B is rather complicated, with 8 of the 9 teams still in with a chance. Only a point separates the top five teams. Ngokentunjia FC and PWD Bamenda each count 22 points with Bamenda FC, Bang Bullets and Phoenix each on 21 points. Kilum Mountain FC (14pts) Kumbo striker and Metro Security lions (13 points each) can still make it into the last four of the pool if they win their remaining matches and hope results elsewhere go their way.

The next day of play in this pool would be very crucial in separating the sheep and goats. The second confronts third in Bamenda on Thursday while fourth and fifth would go head on in Ngwatkan on the same day. Metro Security on the same day entertains Kilum in a match that would define the fate of both teams in the competition. Kumbo Striker would make sure to keep their hopes alive with a victory to bottom side bui leopards in the Kumbo derby.
