NW Governor Re-launches Cultural Festival

Variety of cultural items on display

The 4th edition of the Northwest Artistic and Cultural Season has been launched with a firm commitment to organize it regularly. Northwest Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique launching the activities on Tuesday October 8, 2019 encouraged private investors to take interest in the cultural sector of the region so as to keep the culture and way of life of its people alive. He further called on the youths to use the digital world in in their daily lives to promote the Northwest culture.

In his welcome speech, the SG of the Bamenda City Council, Annafor Cletus on behalf of the Government Delegate described Bamenda as a safe place for the promotion of arts and culture. He  reminded regional and local authorities of their duty in promoting arts and culture within their municipalities and areas of influnce.

Such event he added are fundamental to every community and provides  an opportunity to identify, showcase, consolidate, preserve and eventually pass over our historical and cultural heritage from one generation to another. He called on to put in all efforts to jealousy conserve our tradition as well as artistic nature from the risk of being reduced to mere incantations.

As if to drive home his message, a poem was presented by one of the artist titled “A Letter from the Android Generation to Our Parents”   The poem highlighted the importance of allowing youths expressed them self through modern technology.

After cutting off the symbolic ribbon at the entrance to the fair ground, the governor visited several stands displaying different cultural products as bags and baskets, embroidery, the “togho”, chains, wrist bands and bangles, multimedia, visual and graphic designs, street dance, photography, theatre arts, cinematography, modeling, painting, traditional dancing and many other hand made arts

The cultural exhibition is promoted under the theme “Consolidation of unity, peace and harmonious living together for an emergent Cameroon” The event will run from the 8th to the 12th of October 2019.
