A regional order, No 25/RO/E/GNWR/SG/PAOD signed by Lele Lafrique Adolphe on March 8, 2018 has suspended all movement of motorbikes in three subdivisions of the Northwest Region, two in Momo and one in Ngoketunjia. The order states that it’s due to “the exigencies of security, preservation of peace and the maintenance of law and order

The order suspends still further notice the circulation of motorbikes; whether private of commercial during the day and night in Batibo, Widikum (Momo) and Balikumbat (Ngoketunjia) subdivisions still further notice.

Section four of the order states that “any person (s) who violate or attempt to violate this order shall be persecuted according to the law and regulations in force” The only exemption to the order are administrative bikes, those involve in security operations by forces of law and order and those in possession of a special authorization to circulate.

Batibo in Momo has recently become the epicenter in the current arm struggle by secessionist against the state of Cameroon. The administrative head of the Subdivision, Namata Joseph Diteng and the Regional Delegate for Social Affairs for the Northwest  Animbom Aaron Akiambom were abducted within two weeks and have not been seen since then. Their abduction dealt a big blow to the government in Yaounde and has send shivers down the spine of their colleague with some regional delegate taking off their matriculation plates, their department logos and other have refrain using their service cars for any unofficial business.

The new order is expected to cause serious hardship in these subdivisions where a majority of the residents depend heavily on the use of motorbikes to transport people and produce from the farms, markets and to homes. It’s still not clear when the suspension would be lifted.
