MTN Elite One Round Up – Day 10 Action

YOSA 2018 Start Team

The Elite One Championship  rounded up with Match Day 10 this afternoon with a top of the summit clash in Bamenda that pitted Fovu Club of Baham against defensive minded Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda at the Yong Sport Academy Mile VI Nkwen.

YOSA Joins Top Trio As Fovu Drops Into Fourth

In a tightly contested affaire in Bamenda on Monday March 26, Yong Sport had to overpower Fovu with its plethora of big and huge players through an Arnaud Nseme penalty at the 85th minute of play to pick all three points on play. The victory propels Yosa straight to the top alongside Feutche FC of Diko Bandjoun (19pts +5 goals), Cotonsport (19pts +5 goals) and Yong Sport Academy (19pts +4 goals, with Feutcheu going top by virtue of the number of goals scored (14 as against 13 for Cotonsport )

It also means hitherto co-leader Fovu of Baham drops into 4th spot following its second defeat since the start of the league. Yosa was helped into this position thanks to the draws recorded by Feutcheu and Coton against Eding and Bamboutos of Mbouda on away pitches with both matches ending with identical 1-1 scores.

Union Douala On the Ascendency

The Boys of Frank happy started timidly but have been able to progress up the table with a quick succession of victories. They cemented this new found spirit on Match Day 10 with a 3-1 win over Yafoot on Sunday.  Union 15 points now leads the peloton of teams chasing the leading pack. They head a long line of 11 teams all lined behind the others on 14 down to Les Astres on 10 points. Amongst which is reigning Champion Eding  Sports that could spring out of the peloton if they win a delay match in hand against New Stars, a mate on a failed continental expedition in 2018 at the first hurdle.

The Boys are Trailing Behind the Men

Trailing at the tail of the measuring rod are New Stars of Douala, Aigle of the Menoue and Dragon FC of Yaounde on eight, seven and six points in that order. It may be early days to start pointing fingers but all is not going on well for these teams submerged into the drop zone. Aigle after picking only four points in their first nine games gave reasons to its fans to hope when they recorded their first win on Sunday over fellow strugglers, Dragon FC in Dschang.

This may be signs that new coach Minkreo Birwe could turn the tides around, or maybe it was just the case of a poor team picking up a result from a poorer team. Whatever the case, the league is still 24 days away with a staggering 72 points still up for grasp.
