MTN Elite One: Eding Sport Crowned 2017 Champion

Eding players celebrating

A ceremony was held on Sunday September 17, 2018, before the victory of the new champion over Colombe of Dja and Lobo at the Yaounde Military Stadium in an advanced match of the 32nd day of play.

This time, it's done! Before this match, it was already crystal clear that Eding will be crowned champions. Their head-to-head record and goal difference put them way ahead of Cotonsport of Garoua against whom they never lost (0-0 on the 10th day and 1-0, on the 27th), Anicet Mbarga and Eding celebrated before, during and after their victory (1-0) in front of Colombe of Dja and Lobo. They made sure the stayed away from any controversy by ensuring they picked the three points of the day.

For their second season in the elite one, the boys of President Saint Fabien Mvogo have rose to the podium, picking the highest honour in Cameroon’s football. “What happens to us is extraordinary”  rejoices David Ngondo, captain of Eding Sport. “I did not imagine that our season was going to take place this way. It is in the course of the matches that we began to dream of this title, and that is it, we have it, we are champions of Cameroon"

In front of a hysteric public at the Yaoundé Military Stadium, Eding Sports did not deliver its best match, perhaps due to the pressure and euphoria that characterized the match

The public had to wait until the 10th to see the champions produce some of the exciting and incisive game that they are known to play. Thoroughly set loose with a throrough ball, David Ngondo missed his face-off with Jean Effala Konguep. He was on hand five minutes later with another effort but his shot from the edge of the box went wide.  Colombe responded with Boris Atcham who saw his beautiful shot flushed into the fitting hands Boniface Zoa at the 18th minute.  Colombe continued to mount the pressure as they creating chances that they failed to concretized. The deadlock was broken at the 49th minute through Salomon Banga who scored against him camp from a Jules Tchio cross. All attempts to reestablish parity failed, and Eding Sport befittingly rose to the podium to the acclamations of the players and supporters of Colombe, who themselves felt there have achieved more than they champions.  The team had played the entire first round trap in the relegation batter before exploding in the second round.

Talent Detection

The first factor that favoured Eding Sports’ season is the detection that was made before the kick-off of the championship. In a country where talent does not run on the streets, the technical staff of the club had to dig its brain out  to find the " rare pearls ". And it was not an easy task. It was necessary to go around various stadia of the country to prospect in first and second division teams in particular.

A detection that gave  coach, Anicet Mbarga a team of talented and complementary players like Alphonse Tientcheu (that many technicians consider as the best striker at this time) Christian Nguidjol, striking, Pascal Mbarga, David Ngondo, and the midfield maestro Elimbi. Goal Keeper Boniface Zoa also played a pivotal role in securing the tittle keeping 21 clean sheets. All these talents was concocted into a fine team by Anicet Mbarga, who tapped from his experience and human resource management skills to deliver the goods.

According to him, it was not only the words of the technical staff that counted. The leaders of the club have put all the necessary financial resources so that the players are flourishing. Whether in terms of salary or bonuses, players never needed to strike to claim what was their due.  For example before the clash Eding – Cotton (1-0) of the 27th day, the boss of the club promised 75 000 FCFA to each player in case of victory. Promised kept.

Eding Sport was created in February 2012, promoted to elite one in 2015. With  games to spare. Eding Sport has already started preparations for the CAF Total Champions League next football season.
