The inaugural UN International Day to Protect Education from Attack takes place today Wednesday 9 September 2020.

In May, the UN General Assembly established the International Day to Protect Education from Attack to take place on 9 September – a resolution spearheaded by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, former first lady of Qatar, Chairperson of Education Above All (EAA) Foundation and UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.

On 9 September 2020, EAA is convening a high-level virtual event to galvanise global participation around the objectives and expected outcomes of the inaugural International Day to Protect Education from Attack. High-level education and humanitarian development experts and advocates, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and David Beckham, President and C0-owner of Inter Miami CF, are expected to share their thoughts on how we can protect education, from improved data monitoring and reporting, to mobilising grassroots support and strengthening global governance.

In the lead-up to 9 September 2020, EAA has launched #UniteToProtect, a global campaign to protect education from attack alongside our partners UNICEF, UNESCO and Save Our Future.

We will make sure to share more details on the International Day to Protect Education from Attack in the run-up to the event.
