Bamenda Shuts Down Again

The town closed within minutes of the first shot

Following street battles between seperatists and security forces yesterday that paralysed must of Bamenda central, the town has once more moved into shut down as sporadic gunshots where heard as early as 11:30 am today.

Several shops immediately shut down with some road side vendors abandoning their stands as they run for their lives. Many could be seen carrying their hands in the air.

The streets of Bamenda central, from the Food Market to Hospital Round About, Ntarikon, Commercial Avenue and Small Mankon have all been deserted. Some military pickup trucks could be seen patrolling some streets and carrying out impromptu search, some have been seen looting shops at the Rates Shopping Centre.

It’s still not clear if any one has been wounded or killed. No one for now is certain who started the shot out but some residents of Small Mankon say two unidentified fun men passed on bikes ordering people to go home.
