Ambazonia Suffers Another Set Back: Gen. Okoro Neutralized

General Okoro of Pinyin is amongst 15 Ambazonia fighters nutralized in the most recent military operation in Mezam, July 14 to 19.

Col. Matiang Charles Alain and 450 men for five days combed the area spanning from Bamendakwe to Awing, Alahtening, Baba II, Baforchu to Bawock and up to Pinyin, and converging on Santa in an operation to wipe out Ambazonian fighters and restore security on the major supply road into the Northwest Region.

According to General Nka Valere, Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, the operation code named “Awing-Pinyin” was neccesitated by three recent incidents.

On July 4, a truck belonging to a brewery company was burned on the National Road N6 (Bamenda-Bafoussam). On July 11, a mixed security patrol comprising of police and military personnel was attacked on the same road. A police officer was killed and 6 others wounded. And on July 12, Ambazonian separatists fighters attempted to overrun the Bamendakwe Gendarmarie Brigade. The attack was repulsed.

He called on the soldiers not to relent their efforts untill peace is returned to the Northwest region. On behalf of the army Chief of Staff and the minister of Defense, he congratulated the soldiers but said the road ahead was still though.

Col. Matiang Charles Alain reported that several terrorist camps were destroyed, weapons seized, and materials used for the fabrication of local explosives destroyed. On display at the Stand Stand were various items recover d in the operation including bikes, guns, gun powder, gas canisters, Dane guns,marijuana, contraband fuel, telephones and more.Also amongst the recovered items were 22 beards of cattle. They were reportedly stolen by the fighters and kept in Pinyin. They tried unsuccessfully to transport them else where but we’re intercepted by the military in Ashong.

“Those that we could not transport were destroyed on site” Col. Matiang said. He added “some of the dane guns were taken not because they are useful but are used to terrorize the local population”

Gen. Nka Valere has appealed to the populations to collaborate with the military to help wipe out what he calls maurading armed bandits from the region. “These boys have not come from the sky” he said , calling on local communities to denouce them.

He however called on the soldiers to be responsible and respect the rules of engagement while carrying out their duties. Any looting, illegal assault on civilians will be dealt with he warned.

Earlier the Gen. And his close aides visited the D.O for Santa, Ebena Essian Frank Ghislain at his residence to give him his assurance that they will bring back peace to the subdivision.

Operation “Awing-Pinyin” is the latest of a series of similar successful operations carried out in Bafut, Bui, Ndop, Bali, Widikum, Wum and Nkambe to bring back peace and normal life to the region.
