Circulation Restored On Bda-Santa Road

This excavator used to dig up the gorge was later set ablaze

Circulation has been restored on the Bamenda-Santa road after suspected pro-independence forces dug  a gorge, immobilized some intercity buses and blocked all circulation yesterday night at Mile 8 Akum. The incident happened barely a couple of kilometers away from a heavily manned security post at Mile 3 Akum. Following work on the road under military supervision traffic flow was reestablished earlier today.

Some travel agencies started transporting passengers this afternoon with some preferring to travel in the day rather than the night.

Yesterday’s incident left two persons death and destroyed some buses belonging to Amour Mezam Agency. One of those killed was a driver of the said agency. They also seized an excavator from the Burns construction company working on the road. They used the excavator to dig up a gorge, burned it before disappearing into the thin air. The entire operation lasted close to two hours.

The act created a traffic holdup for several hours and prevented all circulation between Bamenda and the rest of the country. Meanwhile the Governor of the Northwest region has extended the curfew time, down from 9 pm to 6 pm to 6 am till further notice.
