Cameroon FA boss’ passport seized

Airport police on Tuesday confiscated the passport of Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) president Iya Mohammed while he was about to board a flight for France at the Douala airport, local reports have confirmed.

Iya, who is also the managing director of state-owned cotton firm, Sodecoton, said he wanted to travel to Paris for a meeting and had completed flight formalities when two policemen approached him and said they were instructed to stop him from flying out of the country and also to seize his passport.

“No reasons were given for this. No details were given to me. They took my passport and left,” Iya said.

Iya had to board a local flight to his home town Garoua in northern Cameroon, according to reports.

On March 29, the council of budgetary and financial discipline (Consupe), which supervises the Sodecoton, released a report accusing Iya Mohammed of mismanagement of funds and said the company had run into a loss of $18 million (R166m) under the Fecafoot chief.
