The two Egyptians giants are in Group A and will meet in the opening group fixture during the weekend of 19-21st July with Zamalek playing at home. During the same weekend 1995 winners Orlando Pirates will host AC Leopards of Congo in the other Group A encounter.

Angolan side, Recreativo de Libolo will be making their debut in the mini-league phase of the competition and club president Rui da Costa Campos told Cafonline.com afterwards that he was happy with the draw. “ It is a good draw and we will only come up to the North once to play against Esperance and as you know not only is it a long journey up North but teams from this region of Africa are usually quite strong so yes it’s a tough group but l am pleased with it. I think it is possible to finish second in this group.” Said Rui da Costa Campos

Orlando Pirates Chairman, Irvin Khoza was at the draw and said to  Cafonline.com afterwards,” If you want to win the championship you have to play the top sides and in this group we have top teams and past champions including the defending champions Al Ahly. This group is what l call a test of character, It is not easy but we have a goal and target in this competition. We will see how it goes but we are optimistic” said Khoza.

Meanwhile Zamalek’s assistant coach, Ossama Nabuih told Cafonline that he wasn’t too surprised to draw arch-rivals Al Ahly once again. “ We expected this draw. There is nothing called easy or difficult group. At this stage all eight clubs are strong and we are going to play with confidence and we will qualify from this group”. The holders Al Ahly were represented at the draw by their Football Director , Sayed Abdel Hafiz who said he was confident of his team retaining their title. “ Champions that want to defend their title should be ready to meet any opponent. Our group is very tough and much more difficult than the other group . We will face tough teams from great football nations and it is going to be tough.said Nabuih
