The Santa Telecentre has been emptied of all its equipment by burglars that break into the building through a hole dug on the wall on the night of Saturday July 13, breaking Sunday, through the same spot for the second time in as many years.

Fogha Simplice  Yombang, director of the centre told Bamenda Online that the thieves made away with four multimedia computers and monitors including the server, one Samsung  combined printer fax and telecopy machine, two UPS back ups, two surge protector, and a fix Camtel phone. Only the photocopy machine and TV set were spared because they were bigger than the hole they dug.

It’s the second time in as many years that thieves have used the same route to break into the Santa Telecentre. In August 2012, men of the underworld break into the side walls of the building through a hole the made by the wall to carry equipment.

A formal complaint has been launched at the gendarmerie brigade Santa and investigations into the robbery have been open.

Telecentres found mostly in subdivisions are created by the ministry of Telecommunications to provide IT services and internet access to rural areas across the country in an effort to bridge the digital divide. Santa town has no internet access and residents were highly awaiting the Telecentre to fully kick off.  The centre had already been linked to the national optic fibre back bone and it was only a matter of time for the modems to be installed.
