A handball match in progress

The National Institute of Youth and Sport – INJS Yaoundé has wrestled the University of Douala off the top spot of the ongoing 2017 University Games in Bamenda after the medal table was tallied early today after 4 days of competition.

The University of Douala had challenged the games previous standing order when it briefly sprint to the top of the medal counts after Day three actions but this was to last only 24 hours as the INJS regained its rightful place on day four.  Just one gold medal behind, the possibility of a UD upset is still intact. 12 times champions of the games, the University of Yaoundé I continue to lose ground on the top two, with only 5 gold medals this far, it’s becoming very clear that they are slowly losing their grip on the games

By day four, the host university’s only realistic chance to grab a gold medal remained intact following its feminine football team’s third back -to-back win in the group stage of the competition to placed them at a vantage position moving into the last four. UBa Ladies have so far been very impressive with victories over the University of Ngaoundere by 2-0, University of Yaoundé II Soa by 1-0 and a hard fought 2-1 win over the Yaoundé I University.

The battle for medals will continue tomorrow as the games enter day 6. Team sports like Basketball, volleyball, handball and football in both man and ladies categories and others like lawn and table tennis will begin delivering their verdicts as from tomorrow ahead of the official closing on Saturday April 29, 2017.
