Cup of Cameroon: YOSA book place in final against Canon

Yosa 5--4 UMS Loum

Yosa 5–4 UMS Loum

Yong sport Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda would play in the finals of the 2013 edition of the Cup of Cameroon  against Canon Sportive of Yaounde, on a date yet to be announced.

YOSA picked its qualification this afternoon at the Bamenda Municipal Stadium after overcoming USM of Loum from the penalty spot, 5-4, after both teams failed to score in 180 minutes of the two legged encounter, promting wild scenes of celebration and jubilation at the Bamenda Municipal Stadium.

Nkesi Hosea single handedly won the match for YOSA when he succeeded to stop two penalties in the ultimate shot-out; to hand his side a 5-4 victory from the penalty spot. Mformi Brilliant would have won the game if he transformed the 5th spot kick but his lame shot was saved by the keeper to give USM hopes of a comeback, one which never come to be after Nkesi produced another superb performance during the second round of kicks to deny Monthe Honchem the chance to restore equilibrium.

The over 10 000 fans at the Bamenda Municipal stadium thought they were already in the finals when Mformi Brilliant superb header from an Ntieche Eric free kick midway into the second half succeeded to beat Mafanya Collins who was in fine form for the visitors to sent both players and supporters of YOSA wild with jubilation, but the goal was ruled off, for an imaginary offside.

From then on YOSA sensed a chink in USM Loum’s armour, and continued to mount pressure on the visitors, in the process winning more spot kicks and corners which unfortunately yielded no fruits. USM Loum defended resolutely and in numbers and hoped to catch YOSA on the counter, a tactic that almost paid dividend with the introduction of the imposing Njamba Ebwala.

Ebwala’s imposing stature posed serious problems to YOSA backline, forcing three defenders, Tchoing Oliver, Bienvenue Ngah and Ntienche Eric to watch him closely, in a second half that proved to be a far contrast from the first half that was more of a cagy affair between the two teams, that evenly matched each other toe-to-toe.

YOSA would play against Canon Sportive of Yaoundé in the finals following Canon’s shot out victory over Astres of Douala at the Douala Reunification Stadium this afternoon. YOSA becomes only the 3rd team from the Northwest Region to reach the finals of the Cup of Cameroon, after PWD of Bamenda in 1979 and Kumbo Strikers in 2000. Only Kumbo Striker has ever won the cup from the northwest region.
