onfirm by some French papers says The former minister of Water and Energy,  Basile Atangana Kouna has been arrested as he tried to smuggled himself out of the country as he flees from justice.

Reports say he was arrested by the gendarmerie in Campo, Ocean Division of the South Region as he attempted to cross the border into Equatorial Guinea.

Minister Kouna is amongst several former high state personnel whose passports have been confiscated and prevented from leaving the country due to impending investigations on them.

 Some reports are saying the police turned up this morning at his Yaoundé residence but didn’t find him there.  They took his wife into custody. He has been transferred to Yaoundé immediately after his arrest.

Mr. Kouna was dismissed from government on March 2, 2018. A few days later, a circular form the police boss was send to all police stations instructing that he should not be allowed to leave the national territory.  It was also reported that he had attempted escaping through the Nsimalend International Airport a few days after his dismissal from government.

 Basil Atangana Kouna was born  on December 23, 1956 in Mbalelon I, Ngoumou  Subdivision  in the Central Region.  He appointed Minister of Energy and Water on  December 9, 2009. He was previously a  Municipal councilor from July 2002 to July 2007.
