30th September twin election: only those with voter’s card to vote

The president of Elections Cameroon (ELecam) Samuel Fonkam Azu’u has said only those with voter’s card will be allowed to vote on Election Day as he moved to clear the air at a press briefing he held in Bamenda on August 5, on certain misunderstanding concerning voting with or without voter’s card in the upcoming election.

“There is apparently some misgivings about the decision of the Director General of Elections organizing pooling stations, I thought people from reading and interpreting it came out with the view that there is an alternative, you can vote either with you voters card or with the national ID card. That is not the case, I think this message is clear and it’s unambiguous” he said, throwing more light on the decision of Mohaman Sani Tanimou of 22 July to lay down the organization of polling stations.

Citing section 103 sub 1 and 2 of the electoral code, Fonkam Azu’u said the law is very clear to the latter, and only those with their voter’s card are permitted under the law to vote, while those without it may be allowed to vote if the local voting commission decide to allowed such a person to vote under certain conditions like, have withdrawn and lost voter’s card but present certificate of lost and so on.

Mr. Fonkam also announced that the 17 members of the electoral board on the field in their various regions to assess the rate of voter’s card distribution, to ascertain the availability of non perishable voter’s materials like ballot boxes, polling booths, to verify the putting in place of divisional and council area supervisory commissions, the appointment of chairpersons of polling stations amongst others.

He further urged the public to retrieve their voter’s card.

He also announced that 23 lists of political parties were rejected and later affirmed by the Supreme Court following the strict application of the law by Elecam. Those that were readmitted by the Supreme Court were not because Elecam failed but simply because it was only the Supreme Court that had the powers to readmit the list.

The Elecam boss also frowned at some members of the press on their negative reports, trying to divert public attention towards personal issues surrounding board members. He called for objective reporting on issues and not on individuals.

He rounded up by reiterating that the president of Elecam is head of the body and not otherwise.

Sorry Mr Azu,you are the shadow head of elecam while, the director generat, has the yam and the knive. There's nothing you can do about this, other than rambling and quoting the laws. The cpdm bigwigs will no doubt exploit this situation, creat many ghost voters, issue them fake receipt and certifictes of lost an ask them to go vote, and your elecam will do nothing about this, since your are the same birds.
